An evening where we bonded with Lavani

Lavani – the name conjures up so many earthy feelings from the land of the Peshwas – the nauvari saree, the traditional gajra on the hair bun, the kamarpatta, the “chan chan” of the ghungroos, the fast rhythm of the dholak and of course the quintessential, mesmerising dance and story telling. It’s a package deal like none other and we were privileged to have a glimpse of this art form in “Love and Lavani”, a show written and directed by our one of our very own HCI family member, Bhushan Korgaonkar. The performance was at the prestigious Prithvi Theater in Juhu, Mumbai on 15th February, 2024 at 8 pm

Mental health treatment is not all about only taking medicines and therapy sessions. It’s the little things too, like going out with friends, bonding over such outings, having shared experiences to talk about, making memories or just being together to combat loneliness. We decided to enjoy the dance art form of Lavani together with the folks of the HCI family and it turned out to be an evening to remember. “Love and Lavani” is about the real life love story of Shabana Bai Ashturkar.

It was a captivating performance with powerful dialogues and enchanting songs and of course this unique dance. As the performers said (and we wholeheartedly agree), “Love is Lavani and Lavani is love”.
